Hired them to trim back 4 overgrown trees on my property. They are arborists. They trim your trees in a manner to have them grow back out nicely. VERY knowledgeable. Everyone was very professional and friendly during the entire process. They even left my property cleaner than when they arrived. Highly recommend! Fairly priced and great people to do business with. You will not be disappointed.

We have several 20+ yr trees in good shape but overgrown and limbs touching the house. They came out to assess the trees and explain their pruning process. When the crew came on site for the work they were very polite and explained what they were going to do and then checked in with me when they were done. They cleaned up everything and blew the leaves off the yard. It was a great experience and I highly recommend TN Tree Preservation.

We had an excellent experience using TN Tree Preservation! They helped make our home safe as we had *massive* limbs hanging over onto our property. The owner, Mitch, communicated clearly to us each day they were here. Plus the whole Crew was very polite and cleaned up our roof and lawn very well after they were done removing tree limbs. I highly recommend this company and we plan to have them back once a year to trim these trees as needed.

Mitch and Crew did an awesome job cleaning up brush and branches behind our Green Giants. Our Green Giants were being stunted by all the growth behind them and the overhanging trees. Mitch’s team was professional and very thorough. His price was very fair and they left our yard spotless. We would highly recommend TN Tree Preservation for your next tree work.

Stump Grinding & Removal

Our Stump Grinding & Stump Removal Services

Our Process

Our Stump Removal & Grinding Process

Our stump removal and grinding process follows a structured, safety-focused approach designed to deliver consistent results across different property types and site conditions. Each step is carefully planned to address underground factors, select the appropriate method, and restore the area for safe, long-term use.

Site Inspection & Utility Assessment

Every project begins with a detailed site inspection to evaluate stump location, soil conditions, and surrounding features. Underground utilities are identified and safety planning is completed to reduce risk and ensure controlled execution.

Equipment Selection & Preparation

Based on the site assessment, the appropriate equipment is selected, including stump grinders or excavators when required. Protective equipment and site safeguards are put in place to maintain safety during operation.

Grinding or Complete Removal

The stump is addressed using root grinding or full extraction, depending on depth, size, and project requirements. Controlled execution ensures precise removal while limiting impact on surrounding ground areas.

Cleanup, Restoration & Final Inspection

Debris containment and soil leveling are completed to restore surface stability and appearance. A final inspection confirms the area is left clean, secure, and ready for landscaping, construction, or immediate use.

Stump Grinding vs. Stump Removal

Stump grinding removes the visible stump and surface roots by grinding them below ground level. It is faster, less invasive, and ideal for improving appearance and safety.

Stump removal involves extracting the entire stump and root system. It is more labor-intensive but necessary when planning construction, installing foundations, or eliminating aggressive root systems.

The best option depends on stump size, location, and how the land will be used in the future.

Cost Factors for Stump Grinding & Removal

The cost of stump grinding or removal depends on several factors, including:

  • Size and diameter of the stump

  • Root depth and spread

  • Number of stumps on the property

  • Accessibility for equipment

  • Type of service required (grinding vs. full removal)

We provide clear evaluations so you understand the best solution for your property without surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

Stump grinding reduces the stump below ground level by breaking it into small wood fragments, while stump removal extracts the entire stump and root system from the soil. Grinding is less invasive, whereas removal is used when complete root clearance is required.

Stump grinding typically goes several inches below the surface, with depth adjusted based on soil conditions and future land use. Deeper grinding is recommended when replanting, building, or installing hardscaping in the same area.

Grinding removes the stump and surface roots, which prevents visible regrowth in most cases. However, deeper root systems may remain underground, which is why full removal is sometimes recommended for long-term construction plans.

Most stump grinding and removal projects can be completed within a few hours, depending on stump size, root complexity, and site access. Larger or deeply embedded stumps may require additional time.

After removal or grinding, debris is cleared and the soil is leveled to restore surface stability. The area is left ready for landscaping, replanting, or other planned use.
